On the Belgian coast, in De Panne, in the heart of the Dumont quarter — listed in 2010, fully restored in 2025 — Villa Désirée has stood since 1910 as one of the cornerstones of a neighbourhood designed to follow the dune rather than level it. A pause out of time, two steps from the beach.
Chapter II
Signed by the architect Albert Dumont and born in 1910, Villa Désirée embodies the apogee of the Anglo-Norman cottage style: harmonious proportions, generous bow-windows that catch the marine light, expressive half-timbering, a roof of carefully calculated slopes. Extended in 1938 on the east side by the architect Georges Vleurinck, it has been restored in absolute respect of its original architecture — 4 bedrooms, 8 guests, a garden, an open kitchen, wifi, and two hundred metres of dunes that still separate you from the sea.

Chapter III
Albert Dumont understood the importance of harmonising human habitat with its natural surroundings — principles we would today call bioclimatic. In 2025, the municipality deeply transformed the public space: Belle Époque paving, calmed traffic, a heritage trail (erfgoedtraject). Together with the De Concessie quarter in De Haan, Dumont is one of the two unique jewels of the Belgian coast's seaside heritage.
Chapter IV
A work by François Bordes (owner and author), nourished by the family memory of Hadrien Dumont, the contributions of Geert Vanthuyne (Bibliotheek De Panne) and Tom Verhofstadt (Urban.brussels), the testimonies of the Moons and Demuysere families, and the original photographs of Jan d'Hondt.
Not an academic study — a sincere tribute to those who have understood that caring for a historic house is also caring for our shared memory.
